Each child/person is an individual and their learning styles may be different. One of the first things is to understand that student, what drives them, and how can I help them to improve, understand and feel great about him/herself, and want to learn more and grow in their knowledge. I believe that as an educator I am acting as a guide for my students, allowing them to construct knowledge by practicing skills for themselves, and practice skills in authentic situations. Learning should be fun, not stressful! After I tutor students, they walk away with a better feeling of understanding, and an I can do this attitude. I have tutored children for many years. They all grew in their knowledge. I have worked mainly with elementary aged students, but I have also worked with middle school students in Math and Reading comprehension. I have worked with regular education, dyslexic, and special needs students. My years of teaching special needs students, affords me the knowledge and experience of teaching students with hands on educational tools. Most students learn by actually using their senses to understand and remember what is being taught. When teaching math, for example, actually showing with an object how many, a student can have a better understanding.
